There’s a lot to be delighted about. Right now, a hummingbird is diving into a new flower. Bees are returning to their hives, where the latest round of pollen will be converted to honey. Somewhere, a dog is wagging its tail as its person comes home. A cat is prancing around its bowl, waiting for food. Meanwhile, plants and trees are exploding with flowers, growing delicious fruit as millions of people engage in cultivating and harvesting them, for your benefit. A cook is coming up with their next culinary masterpiece to delight local tastebuds.

Today, a parent or caregiver is decorating a birthday cake for a child. A parent is looking into their newborn’s eyes for the first time. Someone is remembering the gifts that a deceased person brought to their life. And a butterfly just fluttered by this writer as she wrote about delight.

Somewhere on earth, an artist is planning or painting a new mural that will be enjoyed by thousands. A comedian is writing a joke, or perhaps having an experience that they will turn into a funny story. A greeting card writer is coming up with a new message that will express exactly the sentiment that you couldn’t put into words. An animator is working on the next film that will delight millions of children and adults. Hundreds of millions of people are working behind the scenes to manage the technology, goods, transportation, and business structures that bring these delightful things to you.

Yes, things are falling apart. Yes, things are changing. But as a resident of planet earth, it is your option to continually attune to the everyday delights that make life worthwhile. And yes, you can help those who are so oppressed that delight doesn’t seem available.

You may be wondering how you’re going to survive the next day. Yet all day, every day, all of these and animals and plants and people are working to help deliver you delight. It’s your right. Claim it.
